As Spring approaches, we are excited for the reemergence and increased activity of our local wildlife.

Bear prints have already been spotted in and around the Village and the dispersed camping areas. Everyone, keep your garbage secure! Springtime is when young golden mantel marmots will emerge from their rocky dens. These young, beautiful rodents don't understand roads and cars, so everyone please be careful.

Beautiful western bluebirds and hummingbirds are migrating their way back to our mountain paradise. Our local deer, elk and moose population will soon be dropping their young, so keep an eye out and especially be wary on CR 74E where our deer take a beating every year.

Last year we had a plethora of large cat (mountain lions and bobcats) sightings in and around some of our mountain subdivisions. Trail cams and ring doorbells helped us keep track of a healthy population. Our resident bighorn sheep population that lives in the North Lone Pine Creek Canyon can be spotted behind the Maxwell Ranch house, if you're lucky! In the higher elevations west of Red Feather, you may encounter the elusive pine martens. For those of you that actively monitor the movement of our reintroduced wolves, you will see that wolves have explored the Sand Creek Park area, the west side of Deadman Mountain, and the western edge of the Poudre Canyon. Keep your eyes open, they will be in our neighborhood soon.

On a happy note, Molly the Shagwa Goose has survived another Red Feather winter and is joyously welcoming back her extended family to Shagwa Lake. We noticed one of her goose friends made their way back to the lake a little earlier than the other geese, keeping Molly company. We are hoping that Molly may form a bond with another goose that will then stay with her year-round.

As you travel through downtown Red Feather, you may spot a large boxer/rottweiler mix. Meet Moe! He is not lost, he just likes to check on all the downtown businesses and make new friends. Although he looks intimidating, he is extremely friendly and not a danger to anyone. Stay tuned for more updates!
