Molly the Shagwa Goose

For those of you that don’t know about Molly, she was born here in Red Feather at Shagwa Lake in Spring 2023. Molly is a Canada goose, who we believe was born with a defect and cannot fly. Sadly, when Molly’s family flew south for the winter, she was left behind. Through the kindness given to Molly of the residents of Shagwa Lake, she has been fed, housed and protected from predators throughout the winter! 

Molly’s family and friends have started to return from the south to join up with Molly again. She is extremely happy, and if you have never owned or cared for a goose, they are very expressive in their emotions and show happiness, sadness and affection. Canada geese pair up for life at 3 years old and usually produce their first brood at 4 years old. Molly has a while to go but we are all looking forward to helping her through her Red Feather journey. As you drive around Shagwa Lake, please be aware of the geese and goslings that often cross the road to the Lake.
